UNION COUNTY, NC (May 23, 2016) – The intersection of North Rocky River Road and Poplin Road in Union County, North Carolina has re-opened. The construction of a roundabout, which was designed to improve safety and mobility through the Sanctuary at Southgate mixed-use, master-planned community is complete and open to traffic.
Walton contributed $180K to the roundabout as part of Sanctuary at Southgate’s annexation and zoning efforts in order to help improve safety concerns of residents in the area. The new roundabout features four concrete islands, which are designed to make crossing the intersection safer for pedestrians. The roundabout also helps keep traffic flowing and prevents traffic backups and delays.
The 141 acre Sanctuary at Southgate master-planned community capitalizes on its location through direct access to Rocky River Road and Poplin Road. The community is designed to be walkable and is interconnected by trails, sidewalks, and open space. The entirety of the site will be developed under the Planned Unit Development Designation within a village center overlay with opportunities for various housing types, commercial, retail and offices. The Sanctuary at Southgate development plan also features proposed amenities including a pool, cabana, tennis court, a pedestrian path to connect the community to the highly regarded Poplin Elementary School and greenway incorporated throughout.
“We have a great public/private partnership with the Town of Indian Trail and are happy to be part of this project”, said Edward R. Fleming, President, Walton Development and Management – East Region. “We look forward to bringing more quality residential options to the community.”
